Sandra Mejia, known as The Plant Chica, runs a family business built with the support of her loved ones, a dedicated team, and a vibrant community. Raised in South Central LA by Salvadoran immigrant parents, she grew up helping her mom pick flowers for church, where her father was a pastor. Her love for plants bloomed early, passed down from her mother.
After becoming a mom, Sandra started The Plant Chica as a side project while working as a medical assistant. For her, plants symbolize family, and she dreamed of turning that passion into a business—now a reality.

The LACGC partners with over 40 community gardens in LA County. In addition to supporting the business side of gardening it also offers gardening advice and workshops to more than 125 community gardens in LA County.
These gardens include traditional community gardens where people rent a plot to grow their own fresh produce, educational gardens where LACGC teaches gardening, landscaping, nutrition and cooking, and urban farms where volunteers grow vegetables for local markets and people in need.
