The Amazing Jacaranda Trees of Leimert Park
Many of you already know that Leimert Park radiates with timeless beauty and an indelible charm. In our humble opinion, one of its most amazing features are the tree-lined streets throughout, offering a wonderful respite of shade under gorgeous green canopies of various tree types from Magnolias and Chinese Elms to Sycamores and Pine trees. One dominant tree throughout Leimert Park are its Jacarandas. Their spectacular, violet-colored flowers are on full display along 39th Street and Edgehill Drive twice a year, during spring and fall. Our very own Degnan Traffic Circle Median beautification project, installed on October 27, 2018, also included the planting of six Jacaranda trees, along with over two hundred drought-tolerant flowering plants.
We love our Jacarandas so much that with past garden tour cycles, our committee made efforts to research the timing of when these beautiful trees would be in full bloom as we wanted tour participants to experience these trees in all their majestic glory. This can sometimes prove to be difficult as Jacarandas can be unpredictable. And while we are fans of this tree, are you? Check out this article in LAist as they delve into the history of the Jacaranda tree and the “love or hate” relationship that many So Cal residents have with it.
